Australian National Artificial Intelligence Plan 2025!
The Australian Government has released the National Artificial Intelligence Plan. The National AI Plan has 3 goals:
capturing the AI opportunity
spreading the AI benefits
keeping Australians safe
The Australian Government:
has committed to robust legal, regulatory, and ethical frameworks that protect rights and build trust, including the ongoing review and adaptation of laws
will establish an AI Safety Institute
does not propose to make mandatory the existing Voluntary AI Guardrails
does not propose to introduce a specific Artificial Intelligence Act
The Australian Government proposes extensive law reform in numerous areas, including:
advancing the science of AI safety
consumer protections for AI-enabled goods and services
reducing online harms through reforms, codes and standards
reviewing the application of copyright law in AI contexts
reviewing AI regulation in healthcare and medical device software
AI security
updating Australia’s privacy laws
